CBC A421 Progress Update

It’s been a while since we last updated you on progress with the A421 dualling project and I am pleased to report that significant progress has been made on the project over the past few months. The Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown restrictions have had an impact on most construction projects however, we’re pleased to report that overall the project is still broadly in line with the planned programme and is due for completion at the end of the year. We continue to ensure that work on site is in line with the latest Government guidance to ensure staff are safe.

We have now substantially completed the earthworks and drainage works. The Cranfield Road and the bridleway bridges are both nearing completion. We have laid the foundations for all of the road, both new and existing carriageways and are currently making good progress in laying the blacktop. Outstanding work includes the central reserve barrier, completion of the cycleway, lining, signing, street lighting and landscaping works.

The statutory utility companies still need to move their services from the temporary bridge onto the new Cranfield Road bridge. Unfortunately they have had been some delays in relocating their water mains and telecom cables. As a result the Cranfield Road bridge will not re-open until the end of August.

We do appreciate the inconvenience that these delays will cause. We will continue to provide updates as the work progresses, in the meantime if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
